First of all, I want everyone to know its a great honor and privilege to appear in this courthouse before Judge Melville, who is an outstanding and fair and very decent Judge. It is an honor and privilege to be in the wonderful community of Santa Maria where wonderful people live, including the people here with us.
I want to make clear what this case is about. This case is not about lawyers or anyone else becoming celebrities. This defense is going to be conducted with professionalism and dignity at all times. This case is about one thing only, the dignity, the integrity, the decency, the honor, the charity, the innocence, and the complete vindication of a wonderful human being named Michael Jackson.
"Haré una declaración muy breve. Ante todo, quiero que todos sepan que es un gran honor y privilegio estar en estos juzjados ante el Juez Melville, que es un juez excelente y muy decente. Es un honor y privilegio estar en la maravillosa comunidad de Santa Maria donde vive gente maravillosa, incluida la gente que esta aquí con nosotros.
Quiero que quede claro de qué va este caso. En este caso no se trata de que abogados o cualquier otro se conviertan en celebridades. I wish to thank my family, my friends and my fans, who continue to support me during this difficult time. Thank you so much for your calls, your letters and your prayers. I have the best fans in the world, and I cannot express how much your support means to me. Thank you all for your love, faith and confidence.
I want to thank the community of Santa Maria for your kindness and support. This community means a lot to me. It is the place of my home. My children were born here and many of my employees were born and raised here, and continue to live here.
As I have repeatedly said, I am completely innocent of these false charges, and I am ready to fight for my innocence. I have complete confidence in my defense team, and believe that at the end of these legal proceedings, I will be fully exonerated by a jury of my peers. I plan on spending the rest of the day here with my family, and ask that you respect our privacy.
